Dualtron Thunder Electric Scooter Overview

More money means more happiness. This is true on the Dualtron Thunder. If you’re looking for some beast scooters for fun more than daily commutes – but don’t care about the cost, then you should consider it.

All the words you can use to praise a scooter – powerful, fast speed, long miles, and more, the Dualtron Thunder scooter can take it. The only problem is its price, over $3000 bucks.

If you want a bit cheaper alternative, the Kaabo Wolf Warrior 11 is worthy your consideration.

Dualtron Thunder Review – Power Performance

Motor and Speed

As with any high-end electric scooters, the Dualtron Thunder features a super powerful motor, which is able to output a maximum of 5400W power at peak. This peak performance of Dualtron Thunder’s motor outperforms most models on the market. It packs a dual-motor system – with one motor installed on each wheel.

So it can work in single-motor and dual-motor modes. If you’re planning to ride it in busy streets at a slow or appropriate street-legal speed, the single-motor mode is good enough for power. At this time, the motor on the rear wheel is working. If you want to turn on both motors to output the maximum power, you should press the red motor system selection button around the right handle grip and brake lever.

Unlike most models on the market that are designed for commuting or getting around at a relatively slow or moderate speed, the Dualtron Thunder is quietly different.

It’s created for extreme riding experience, for scooterists and those people who enjoy thrilling adventures. At the dual-motor mode, the Dualtron scooter will reach a very fast top speed of around 50 miles per hour (80 km/h), beating most scooters and ranking top on the fast e-scooters list.

The speed is not fixed, and you can adjust it via the instrument panel, which is a bit complicated to use. But for speed selection, you just need to press one button if you want to control the speed manually, not in the cruise control riding mode. We’ll talk about this in the Display part.

Acceleration

The Dualtron Thunder provides two ways to start – slow or kick. If you set it to kick start, obviously the acceleration takes more time. But if you choose the slow start, the acceleration from 0 to 15 mph just needs 2-3 seconds. For experienced riders, the acceleration may take less time.

The Dualtron Thunder scooter is not designed for beginners for scootering. But if you don’t want to start from an entry-level scooter and want to get a scooter in one step from novices and professionals. You’d better choose a stable start – the kick one to get used to the scooter.

Climbing Hills

As we know, the ability to climb hills is tied to the scooter’s motor performance. Thanks to the ultra-powerful motor system, the Dualtron Thunder is capable of climbing 35-degree hills. This means that it can handle the steepest streets even in those very hilly areas – Los Angeles for example.

You should know that the real riding conditions also influence the actual uphills performance. The maximum 35-degree hills-climbing is the test result under very ideal status. The rider’s weight, road surfaces, and remaining battery volume can affect the scooter’s grade ability.

Based on many users’ real riding experience, it’s not a big deal for Dualtron Thunder scooter to handle most slopes in the cities and a few smooth trails.

Battery and Range

As a monster scooter, the Dualtron Thunder not only performs well in speed but also in the mileages. Thanks to the big 2066Wh battery, the Dualtron Thunder is able to go as far as 100 km (around 75 miles) on a single charge. This is reachable for most riders if you’re not a very heavier big guy riding it on tough road conditions.

The 75-mile range is great and long enough no matter for daily commutes in the cities or getting around in suburbs. You don’t need to charge it every day if you just need to commute 10-mile a day back and forth from home to office. With good maintenance for battery usage, you can just charge it once a week.

It’s reasonable for the scooter to take a very long time to charge from 0% to 100%. After all, the bigger battery, the longer the charging time! With one 1.7A standard charger, it generally takes over 20 hours to get full juice. The charging time cuts in half to 10+ hours with two standard chargers. (PS. only one standard charge is included in the package and you’ll need to purchase another one available on the company’s official site).

The Dualtron Thunder scooter supports quick charge. The charging time shortens sharply if you use a 6.5A quick charger, only 5.3+ hours. Want less time to charge the Dualtron Thunder? Using one standard charger along with a quick charger, it charges 100% fully in 4.2 hours. But the quick charger is not included in the package and you need to purchase it separately.

Dualtron Thunder Review – Ride Quality

As a pricey electric vehicle, the Dualtron Thunder features the most appealing accessories to ensure the riders have a smooth and comfortable ride. The 11-inch large tubeless tires add points to the ride quality. The tires are 4-inch wide to ensure you have a great riding experience on bumpy roads with cracks and potholes. The tires are not designed for off-road riding, but with a textured surface for more gripping power on trails and muddy roads.

Storm tires for off-road use are available for changing and purchasing on the official site if you want to customize your Dualtron Thunder to conquer all the weather and road conditions.

Thanks to the upgraded suspension geometry used on the current generation of Dualtrons. The Dualtron Thunder now has a fully adjustable 3 step variable suspension system which is coupled with replaceable rubber cartridges to completely dial in your ride. The adjustable suspension not just ensures a smooth and comfortable ride but also efficient braking for safe riding.

Brake

Fast speed needs efficient brakes. As one of the fastest electric scooters, the Dualtron Thunder comes with a great braking system – including disc brakes and electric brakes, plus the ABS brakes.

The disc brakes on both front and rear wheels are controlled by the brake lever on the handlebar. If you need to stop the scooter, slow down it with the rear disc brake lever around the left-hand grip, then add the front disc brake lever on the right-hand. Use both brake levers together will ensure a smooth and safe stop after decelerating with the rear brake.

Electric braking needs to be customized before starting the scooter. The level is also adjustable via the instrumental panel.

ABS brakes are generally used in motorcycles for efficient and safe braking. Few e-scooters come with ABS brakes, but the Dualtron Thunder does. It is equipped with an ABS brake function to hold the tire lock, enabling more secure braking if any emergency happened.

It’s also required to set via the instrumental panel. Entering the modes setting and click the speed selection button and then switch to the ABS setting, set the ABS function part Pd of the dashboard to 1. This means the ABS brake is working.

However, the ABS brake does not work along with the electric brake. So when one is on, the other is off. But you can choose one that is good for your riding and stopping.

Build Quality

The Dualtron Thunder features a very bulky and sturdy body, with the frame and handle are aviation grade 6082-T6 aluminum alloy and the shaft is SCM440 steel. But the design is very clean and simple, like any classic adult kick scooters, it’s just the very wide deck, big tires, and typical handlebar that add to the scooter’s overall weight, making it much heavier.

Portability

The Dualtron Thunder is not good for last-mile transportation. It lacks great portability, due to the heavy body. It weighs around 43 kg (about 95 pounds), almost two times heavier than those lightweight and cheap electric scooters. The heavy body is not easy for the riders to carry around, even the Dualtron Thunder is foldable.

Luckily, it can go for a very long distance at a single charge. So if you live not far from the office or school, or you just want to get around the community, it’s a good and handy electric two-wheeler.

But it’s foldable and compact for storage. With a folding size comes at 48.7 x 12.5 x 21.4 inch (123.8 x 31.9 x 54.3 cm), the Dualtron Thunder scooter is compact enough to store under your desk and in the car trunk. It saves a lot of space, thanks to the foldable handlebar. Yes, both the steering tube and the handlebar are foldable.

Deck

The Dualtron Thunder deck is wide, ensuring much space for the riders to put their feet. The width is up to 31.9 cm, even good enough for big guys. Some scooters’ deck is a bit narrow and the riders need to put a little gravity on the rear fender.

The deck is changeable with multiple options available, offering the owners the best customization. Decks with colorful LED lights are available to make sure that you get noticed even though the default deck features mood lights for shining in dark environments.

Lights

The majority of electric scooters, especially the entry-level models, features the basic lighting system that includes a bright LED headlamp and a red rear braking light. Not the case for Dualtron Thunder. In addition to front and rear LED lighting, the Dualtron Thunder features blue bottom mood lights and an illuminated handlebar that you can set to any color you choose.

Different from other scooters placing the headlights up or bottom the steering tube, the headlights of Dualtron Thunder are found under the deck. Four bright LED lights on both sides let you have a clear insight for riding at night. If you want to get more notice, turn on the blue mood light.

Weight limit

Talking to the maximum load capacity, don’t overestimate the Dualtron Thunder’s muscled body. It only supports a rider of 265 pounds at most, not matching its strong outlook. This 265-pound weight limit is neither top-notch nor poor in the scooters for big guys. There are a large number of models that support a rider with more than 300 pounds of weight.

Is Dualtron Thunder waterproof?

No. There is no scooter that is 100% waterproofing. Even the manufacturer does not state the scooter’s water-resistance IP rating but just advises you not to ride the scooter on wet road conditions. However, if you can make sure the water does not get into the scooter deck and tire to damage the battery components and electric motor, it’s okay to ride on slightly wet surfaces.

Bonus – Dualtron Thunder Accessories

Seat

Standing up a scooter for long-range riding is a bit exhausted. The company still took this into consideration and provide an additional seat. If you want to sit on the Dualtron Thunder, you need to purchase the seat separately to make it a seated electric scooter.

Box bracket

A box bracket is available for holding a box for grocery upper the rear fender if you occasionally ride the Dualtron Thunder scooter for shopping. The CarbonRevo box bracket mounts to the stock holes above the rear swingarm of the Dualtron Thunder
